Measuring Our
Productivity
By
Cyndi Seidler
Companies that keep
statistics which measure the amount of production and income
usually make more money because they are always trying to perform
better than the previous graphed statistic.
Keeping graphs of
various statistics help an executive manage their business and
handle problem areas quicker. By measuring income, promotion sent
out, new business, billable hours, hours delivered, and anything
that helps one look at their progress (or lack of progress) is an
essential tool for any business owner.
Every time I put in
a statistic system for a company, it immediately gives executives
and staff a better perspective of all the activities and functions
in their organization. By being able to see what is going on in
their company, proper strategies and plans can be implemented to
straighten out a failing area or improve a growing area.
I feel that if I'm
not 'playing a game' with myself, that I would impede my company's
growth potential. In a group, certain game plans can pull everyone
together as a team. For a one-person operation, an individual can
operate at a higher level by applying the same principle.
It's one thing to
keep logs on production activities, and it's another to graph
them. When you can actually SEE dollars or numbers measured on a
graph, it allows one to step in fast and plan for the next
strategic move in the battle, if you view yourself on the
battlefield of business.
